Postcard views 1960s-1970s: Kummerlowe Archive

Roanoke Rapids-Weldon, NC -- 1606 Julian Allsbrook Hwy.

While no trace of Weldon's restaurant/highway stop remained by the later 2000s, its motor lodge was still functional as the Interstate Inns and RV Park. The motor lodge was a typical unit offering 100 standard guest rooms all with color TV and was likely built in the middle 1960s. It's site at the intersection of I-95 and U.S. 301 & 158 proved to be excellent, for a host of roadside businesses serving travelers sprang up at the interchange. After its days as a Horne's and prior to adopting the Interstate Inns name, the complex was listed as a Best Western.
